I love my teen side and when it comes to teen songs, I love Demi's!!! I made an exercise for you!!! You just have to add the correct word in the blanks!!! (write down on a piece of paper 1-11) And pay attention to the expressions in the song and the translation they get, not literally. Enjoy!!!
Você me faz (6)______
But I cover up
Mas eu disfarço
Won't let it show
Não vou demonstrar isso

E toda vez que tento ser (8)______
It comes out wrong like a cry for help
It's just not fair
Isso não é justo
Pain's more (9)______ than love is worth
A dor é mais (9)______do que o valor do amor
I gasp for air

But you
Mas você
Make me wanna act like a girl
Me faz querer agir como uma garota
Paint my nails and wear (10)______
Pintar minhas unhas e usar (10)______
For you
Para você
Make me so nervous
Me deixa tão nervosa
That I just can't hold your hand
Que nem consigo segurar sua mão

The feelings got lost in my lungs
Os sentimentos se perderam em meus pulmões
They're burning, I'd rather be numb
Eles estão queimando, preferiria estar dopada
And there's no one else to (11)______
E não tem mais ninguém para (11)______
So scared I take off and run

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE: When to use MAKE and DO

Goooood morning!!!! I'm very happy today!!! I love waking up early, especially when I have time to stop by the bakery and get some fresh chocolate croissant... hmmmm!!! So good!!!
Bommmm dia!!!!

Guys, take a look, we have here something that is quite confusing for many learners of English: when we use MAKE and DO. In Portuguese it's even worse because both words have the same basic translation which is "FAZER". Depending on the collocation, it changes a little, for example, MAKE A MISTAKE is not translated by "FAZER um erro" but "COMETER um erro". Anyway, it's good to have in mind a general rule:

MAKE
related to the preparation of something
relacionado com a preparação de algo

DO
related to an activity
relacionado com uma atividade

For example, if I MAKE an English exercise, it means I prepared, I wrote the exercise to my students; and if I DO an English exercise, the exercise is ready and I'm testing myself, practicing English with that exercise.

Remember that some uses of MAKE and DO are strictly that way, that is, they are collocations and should be known by heart.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE: The "WRITE" Way... 8 commonly misused words

Guys, I found this chart on the internet and found so useful because it's sooooo true!!! So many times students of English get confused with some similar words... for example, in the tittle, we should use the word "RIGHT" which means "correct", not "WRITE" which means "communicate in writing".
Take a look at the most commonly confused words and make sure you can identify both and don't make the same mistakes!!! (click on the picture to zoom in or download the pic)

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Dove Real Beauty Sketches

This morning I opened FB and saw this video on a friend's page, Dove is used to make beauuuutiful videos about beauty and this one was very interesting since it talks about how we see ourselves and how another person sees us, and an experienced forensic artist drew both descriptions and here you can see how different some people see themselves and how they are actually seen by the others.

The whole video is in English, watch it and try to understand the whole context, don't get stuck into words you don't know. Enjoy it!!!
Curta!!!

And here is the extended version with the subtitles in Portuguese:

GET WHAT U SING: Bruno Mars - When I was your man

OMG... How pretty is this song?!?!?! It talks about a guy who now recognizes how important the girl in his life was and all the things he should have done to have her with him yet, but it's too late.

The first video has the lyrics, so you can sing along and practice, and the next video comes with the subtitles in Portuguese.

I have a challenge for you: What is the word which is a false friend - seems to be a similar word in Portuguese, but it has a different meaning - he says in the song???

COOL TIPS: What to Avoid in a Job Interview

I was reading some articles and found something interesting to put here on the blog. As some of you may know, besides being a private teacher, translator, interpreter, proofreader, I also carry out oral evaluations to test a person's English skills so that he/she can work at a company. I always interview very interesting people for very interesting companies, and you end up paying attention to some other things related to a job interview. On this website, there are 25 things to avoid in a job interview, so I picked the 10 most important ones to help you in case you have to go through this process. Hope you find it useful as I do!!! =)

1. Poor personal appearance
1. Aparência pessoal ruim

Usually the best bet is wear a business suit, but this is not a rule, according to the company you are applying to you can choose other type of clothing, anyway, if you do not use a suit you can use elegant sport clothing. Take special care of your personal appearance; remember the first impression is important.

2. Say too much or say too few
2. Falar demais ou muito pouco
During a job interview, try to answer with the necessary words, go to the point and do not divagate through other subjects, also avoid using yes/no answers, listen carefully to the interviewer and if you have doubts about the question then ask, remember everything you say will be taken into account to give you the job or not.

3. Show up unprepared
3. Aparecer despreparado
If you do not take a while to analyze your skills, strengths, the company, what you want, what you expect, and so on, you may find yourself on an uncomfortable situation during your interview.

4. Showing up late
4. Aparecer atrasado
Take precautions to avoid being late, choose your clothing the night before, if you can, go to the location where the interview is going to be performed, that way you will know for sure the address, if some unexpected thing happens like an emergency, call ahead

5. Criticism of past employers
5. Criticar empregadores antigos
Never criticize your last employer(s), the interviewer probably will call them to be sure about your references, so avoid doing that, even if the interviewer seems to be a really comprehensive person.

6. Lying
6. Mentir
Be respectful and honest with your interviewer(s), it won't be hard for them to realize if you are lying or not, and in case you get hired, it will probably be the reason for you being fired

7. Poor eye contact with interviewer
7. Contato visual ruim com o entrevistador
During an interview, make sure you make eye contact with each interviewer, you are talking to human(s), so look politely to their eyes while you answer.

8. Talk too much
8. Falar demais
Interviews are a two way conversation so be careful to not talk too much, listen carefully, think what you are going to say and answer the questions properly covering all the subjects it involves.

9. Use too much technical words or jargon
9. Usar palavras técnicas demais ou jargões
During an interview, if you and the interviewer can understand technical language then use it, nevertheless, probably it will be the first time you talk to him/her, so the best is use simple words avoiding jargon

10. Listen what it means, not what is said 10.
It is important to listen carefully the questions regardless the meaning you can think they have, focus on the question and answer it.

SEJA CONFIANTE
SEJA VOCÊ MESMO
ESTEJA PREPARADO
CONQUISTE O TRABALHO!
